Intel is a leading provider of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) devices and provide a comprehensive suite of development tools for FPGA design as well as preconfigured design blocks to enable fast system assembly. Intel’s FPGAs offer a wide variety of configurable embedded SRAM, high-speed transceivers and IO’s.

Intel’s current FPGA portfolio

Quartus Prime

Intel’s main FPGA development tool comes in 3 editions: Pro, Standard and Lite. Users wishing to utilise the latest Intel FPGAs (excluding cyclone 10) will need a Pro edition license. Users who are targeting earlier devices or the Cyclone 10 series can choose to use the standard edition of Quartus. A EUROPRACTICE license gives access to the following, Quartus Pro edition, DSP Embedded FPGA IP Bundle, Protocol IP Bundle, Video FPGA IP Bundle, DSP Builder.

Quartus Standard Edition

The standard edition includes all the necessary functionality and device support for most FPGA projects. This base level edition provides all the tools necessary to go from writing HDL to synthesis and place & route.

Quartus Pro Edition

Extends from the standard edition to include additional FPGA devices (Agilex series, Stratix 10, Arria 10 and Cyclone 10GX), and has all available Quartus software packages. This package is required if you wish to use the following:
Block-based design, Incremental optimization, Platform designer (Pro), Interface planner, Early placement, Fractal synthesis and the power & thermal calculator for use during verification.

Intellectual Property Blocks

Pre-characterised design blocks which can be customised. A small set of mostly memory IP is included with the Quartus licenses. More advanced IP needs to be requested separately. The number of seats of IP will match the number of Quartus seats request:

IP Base Suite

Memory controller IP and basic filters. Includes: NCO, FFT compiler, FIR compiler II, QDR II and QDR II + SRAM controller with UniPHY, RLDRAM 3 UniPHY, RLDRAM II controller with UniPHY, DDR2 SDRAM controller with UniPHY, DDR SDRAM controller with UniPHY.

DSP

The NIOS softcore processor and some further DSP filters. Note that you must add this bundle to get the NIOS as it is no longer part of the base bundle. Package includes the following: DSP, IP-NIOS, IP_CIC, IP-RSCODECII, IP-VITERBI/SS, IP-VITERBI/HS, IP-UART-16550, IP-TURBO, IP_RSCODEC-HS, IP-BCH, IP-LDPC, IP-TURBOV.

Protocol MegaCore Bundle

A full set of Ethernet cores at 1G, 10G, 40G and 100G. Not all protocols are compatible with all devices.
